When you hit a human snaggle
Lent Reflection #7 2026 from author Alison Lloyd
To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him. Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God by walking in his laws which He set before us.
Daniel 9:9-10
Yesterday I hit an unpleasant bump in my daily life. I’ve come up against a tricky situation of interpersonal conflict. I’ll be vague and won’t give the details here, since it wouldn’t really be helpful. Let’s just say I think two people are both in the wrong and that they’re displaying exactly the same fault. This has the potential to cause a wider rift across part of my family. It is therefore stressing me.
This verse hit home this morning. I find Daniel’s words encouraging. It’s a statement out of the pain of Daniel’s heart, as he looked at the mess the Israelites were in. (Carried off to Babylon because they wouldn’t listen to God any other way.)
Daniel says that mercy and forgiveness are God’s in origin. God has mercy and forgiveness to give, even in a situation like this, caused by wrongheadedness and trenchant attitudes. I don’t know how the conflict around me is going to play out. But on the basis of this verse, I am praying for a miraculous resolution in the long term, by the mercy of God.
